Kitty Whately trained at Chetham’s School of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Royal College of Music’s International Opera School. She won the Kathleen Ferrier and Royal Overseas League Awards, was part of the prestigious Verbier Festival Academy and was a BBC New Generation Artist.
Recent engagements include Hansel Hansel and Gretel and Elvira Don Giovanni (Scottish Opera), Hermia A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Rouen), Kate Owen Wingrave (Grange Park Opera), Meg Little Women (Opera Holland Park), Dorabella Così fan tutte (OHP and The Grange Festival), Annina Der Rosenkavalier (Garsington) and The Cunning Little Vixen (CBSO; Birmingham, Paris, Hamburg, Dortmund).
Further engagements include Isabella Wuthering Heights and Kate Owen Wingrave (Nancy), Paquette Candide (Bergen), Turnage’s Coraline (world premiere, Barbican; Royal Opera), Paquette and Nancy Albert Herring (The Grange Festival), Hermia (Aix, Bergen, Beijing), Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia and Stewardess Flight (OHP); Vasco Mendonça’s The House Taken Over (world premiere, across Europe) and Ippolita / Pallade Elena (Montpellier, Versailles).
In high demand as a Concert artist and Recitalist, Kitty has sung all over the world, with leading orchestras and renowned accompanists. Highlights include Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Berlin Philharmonic), Das Lied von der Erde (Mizmorim Festival), The Dream of Gerontius (QEH, St John’s Smith Square), Duruflé and Mozart’s Requiem (Dunedin Consort, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), B Minor Mass (Royal Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Chamber Orchestra), Mass in C Major (Philharmonia), Nelson Mass (Britten Sinfonia), Bach’s Magnificat (Britten Sinfonia, Choir of King’s College Cambridge), Handel’s Messiah (Royal Albert Hall) and numerous Proms and Concerts with the BBC Orchestras.
Kitty has three solo albums; Nights Not Spent Alone, Befreit – a Soul Surrendered and This Other Eden; and The Song of Love with Roderick Williams.
